A nonbreaking space is used to prevent multiple words from breaking if they fall at the end of a line. For example, you can prevent "M. Poirot" from breaking; Microsoft Word will instead move both words to the beginning of the next line.

If you want to view all the nonbreaking spaces in a document, turn on formatting marks by clicking the Show/Hide (¶) button on the Standard toolbar.

NOTE: Word uses this symbol (°) to represent a nonbreaking space.

To insert a non-breaking space at the insertion point, press CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR.
