WD2000: Error, Changes Not Merged from Table to End of File

ID: Q212142

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to merge revisions or changes between two documents in Microsoft Word 2000 and the revised document contains an added table, the following error message appears:

The merged documents contain unmarked changes.
Do you want to merge up to the first untracked change?
If you click OK, Word merges the changes up to the table in the original document but does not merge the table or anything after the table. If you click Cancel, Word cancels the merge and leaves the two documents in their original states.

WORKAROUND

To merge the files successfully, compare the original and the revised documents and then accept or reject changes. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the newer version of the document.

  2. On the Tools menu, point to Track Changes, and click Highlight Changes.

  3. Clear the Track changes while editing check box and click OK.

  4. On the Tools menu, point to Track Changes, and click Compare Documents.

  5. In the File name box, type the name of the original document and then click Open.

  6. If you receive the following message, click Yes.

  7. The new document already has changes. Word may ignore some existing changes. Compare anyway?
Information from both files will be merged into the newer version of the file.

  8. On the Tools menu, point to Track Changes, and click Accept Or Reject Changes.

  9. Use the Accept and Reject buttons to review the changes in the document.

  10. Save and close the document.
