WD2000: Workgroup Templates Setting Lost After Upgrading

ID: Q217488

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000
  • Microsoft Office 2000

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Microsoft Office 2000 or Word 2000, your default Workgroup templates location is empty (in Word, on the Tools menu, click Options and then click the File Locations tab).

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. If, after upgrading to Office 2000, the Workgroup templates folder setting were to be retained, a Word 2000 user would be able to save a Word 2000 format template to the Workgroup templates location, which may cause problems for users of previous versions of Word sharing the same Workgroup templates location.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you can do one of the following:

  • Create a new Workgroup templates folder for Word 2000 templates and then set the Workgroup templates location to that new folder.

  • -or-

  • Enter the path to the existing Workgroup templates location.

To set the Workgroup templates location in Word:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the File Locations tab, click to select Workgroup templates.

  3. Click Modify.

  4. Enter a valid path pointing to your Workgroup templates folder.

  5. Click OK twice.
