After you shade an irregular table in Word and view the table in a Web browser, the irregular table may appear with additional table cells shaded. the table may appear as the following when you view the Word document in a Web browser: NOTE: This problem also occurs when you save your Word document as a Web page and then view the Web page in a Web browser. CAUSEThis problem occurs when you apply the shading to the entire table. When you draw irregular table cells and view as a Web page (on the File menu, click Web Page Preview), Word adds table cell placeholders within the table. When you apply shading to the table, the table cell placeholders are also shaded. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, apply the shading to the individual cells of your table using the following steps:
