WD2000: WordArt, AutoShape Object Pasted as Inline Picture in E-Mail Message

SYMPTOMS

When you paste a WordArt image or an AutoShape in a Microsoft Word e-mail message, the object is pasted as an inline picture rather than a floating object.

NOTE: To use Word as your e-mail editor, start Microsoft Outlook 2000, click Options on the Tools menu. On the Mail Format tab, click to select the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box, and then click OK.


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use any of the appropriate methods for your situation.

Method 1: Insert the WordArt or AutoShape into Your E-mail message

To insert either WordArt or an AutoShape in a new mail message when Microsoft Word is your e-mail editor, you must use the Drawing toolbar. To show the Drawing toolbar:
  1. In your new e-mail message, point to Toolbars on the View menu and then click Drawing.


  2. On the Drawing toolbar, click either the Insert WordArt button or click AutoShapes to insert the object that you want.

    The object is inserted with the In Front of Text wrapping style.


Method 2: Paste as an MS Office Drawing Object

To paste your WordArt or AutoShape object into an e-mail message when Word is your e-mail editor:
  1. Select the WordArt or AutoShape object and then click Copy on the Edit menu.


  2. In your new e-mail message, click Paste Special on the Edit menu.


  3. In the Paste Special dialog box, click MS Office Drawing Object, and then click OK.


NOTE: When you paste your WordArt or AutoShape object as an MS Office Drawing Object, the object is inserted with the In Front of Text wrapping style.

Method 3: Create and Send Document From Microsoft Word

Create your e-mail message as a Word document and then send your document containing the WordArt or AutoShape object directly from Word:
  1. In Word, create your document containing the WordArt or AutoShape object.


  2. On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Mail Recipient.


  3. Type the recipient's e-mail address, and a subject. Then, click Send.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
