CAUSE

You are running the Bgmail.exe utility.

The document contains corrupt or invalid links.

WHAT TO TRY

You are running the Bgmail.exe utility.

Bgmail.exe prevents Windows tools from locking the hard disk properly. Note that Bgmail.exe is loaded from either the Winstart.bat file or the Autoexec.bat file.

If you are running the Bgmail utility, edit the Winstart.bat file or the Autoexec.bat file and place a semicolon (;) at the beginning of the Bgmail.exe line to temporarily turn it off. Save and close the file and then restart Windows and run ScanDisk.

The document contains corrupt or invalid links.

To update the fields in Word, follow these steps:
  1. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  2. Press F9.

This updates the fields. If an error occurs at this point, one or more of the fields may be invalid.

It may be possible to continue and save your file if you unlink the fields (CTRL+SHIFT+F9). If unlinking the fields does not work, you may have to delete one or more objects and reinsert them.

WARNING: When you unlink fields in Word, they become plain text (if they are text fields) or pictures (if they are objects, like Equation Editor objects). You may not want to unlink fields, especially if they are objects; if you do, you have to recreate the object if you ever want to update it.
