WD2000: Cutting Text in Word Document Causes Illegal Operation (IPF)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Cut command (Edit menu) to delete text from a Word document, the following error message may appear:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, the following error message appears:
WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module MSO9.dll at 015f:<address>.

-or-

WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module WINWORD.EXE at <address>.
This problem has been reported to occur in Microsoft Word when you use any of the following applications:
  • Exceed 6.0.1
  • Ecco Professional 3.01


WORKAROUND

To prevent these problems from occurring in Word, use the Copy command to copy the selected text (do not use the Cut command). After the text has been copied, delete the text from where you do not want the text to appear.
