NOTE: This article discusses complex scripts functionality. Complex scripts functionality is available when you use the Office Language Settings tool to enable a language, such as Arabic or Hebrew, that requires this functionality. SUMMARY

If you use a right-to-left version of Word 97, you are accustomed to seeing an insertion point (cursor) with a flag that indicates text direction. If you install the English (U.S.) version of Word 2000, even if you are using the Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack, you notice that the insertion point, both in left-to-right and right-to-left, is neutral; that is, there is no flag to indicate direction.

MORE INFORMATION

Installing the English (U.S.) version of Word designates English U.S. as your installation language, which gives you the neutral insertion point.

To benefit fully from the right-to-left features offered in Word, including the insertion point that indicates direction, install a right-to-left version of Word 2000.
