This functionality is by design. When you upgrade to Microsoft Word 2000 over an earlier version of Word, Word retains the settings and compatibility options for the earlier version of Word. WORKAROUNDTo change the compatibility options in Word, do the following:

Compatibility options select the display options you want for the current document. The selected options affect how the document is displayed only while you're working with it in Word; however, the document is not changed permanently.
