WD2000: Page Setup Changes to Letter in Documents Converted from Word for Windows NT, version 6.0

ID: Q238234

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When a document that was created in Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0, is opened in Microsoft Word 2000, the paper size may change from A4 to Letter.

CAUSE

Word for Windows NT does not save any paper size information by default. You will see this problem if the document was created on a computer with a Regional Setting that uses a different page size by default. English (UK) uses A4, for example, and English (US) uses Letter as the default paper size.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next service pack that contains this fix.
