MORE INFORMATION

How Word 2000 Instrumented Version Works

Word 2000 Instrumented Version is a research tool that collects information about how you use Word 2000 and other Office 2000 functions. It records your use of program functions for a period of 30 days and stores this information in the \windows\off9iv folder as files with *.rsh extensions. The *.rsh files are binary files and cannot be opened without a special viewer utility. At the end of 30 days, you are prompted to copy the data to disk. The number of disks needed for the files depends on the amount of data collected during the 30-day period, but the maximum number of disks that are needed is three. The Word 2000 Instrumented Version Setup program, Ivsetup.exe, installs a number of new dynamic link library (DLL) files on your computer. It renames the Winword.exe and Ww9intl.dll files to have an .iv extension. It copies its own version of these files to your computer. It also writes information to the Windows registry. When you uninstall the instrumented version, the Setup program returns your computer to the way it was before you installed it by deleting the .dll files, renaming the original Winword.exe and Ww9intl.dll files to their original file names, and cleaning up the registry.
