  • Microsoft Word 2000

SUMMARY

The Microsoft Works Suite 2000 adds some additional functionality to Microsoft Word 2000. This article discusses the changes made to Word by Works.

MORE INFORMATION

New on the File Menu

When you click New on the File menu, a menu with the following choices appears: Blank Document, Works Task Launcher, and More Word Templates.
  • Blank Document creates a new blank Word document.

  • Works Task Launcher allows you to start some additional wizards. See the "Wizards" section later in this article.

  • More Word Templates loads the default New dialog box (File menu) for Word.

Mail Merge

When you click Mail Merge on the Tools menu, a menu with the following choices appears: Options, Document Type, Data Source, Select Names, and Filter and Sort.
  • Options opens the Word Mail Merge Helper dialog box.

  • Document Type starts one of the Works mail merge wizards. You can choose Form Letters, Mailing Labels, Envelopes, or Catalog. Each choice allows you to use either an address book or another file as the data source. The default for the other type of file is a Works database file (wdb).

Data Source, Select Names, and Filter and Sort are initially unavailable until you create a merge document. After a data source is set up, you can select these.
  • Data Source allows you to edit the data source.

  • Select Names allows you to select the records you want to merge from the data source merge fields.

  • Filter and Sort works exactly like the Word Filter and Sort option, which is available on the Query Options button in the Mail Merge Helper.

Wizards

You can access the following Word wizards by running the Works Task Launcher. To run the launcher, click New on the File menu and then click Works Task Launcher. These templates are installed in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\1033\Wizards folder by default.
