WD2000: Table Border Changes When Document Opened in Word 2000

ID: Q242932

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you open a document containg a table with table border formatting, the right borders of some cells may change or disappear when the file is opened.

The cell borders might be displayed correctly when the file is opened but change after a few seconds.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are met:

  • The table was originally created in Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 or WordPerfect 5.x.
  • The cell is a merged cell.

Word 2000 uses the right border formatting of the leftmost of the cells that the merged cell was created from, instead of the right border of the merged cell.

The problem also occurs when the document was created in one of the applications listed above, then edited in Microsoft Word 6.0, Microsoft Word 95, or Microsoft Word 97 before it was opened in Word 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
