WD2000: Same Page Number Appears on Every Page of Document

SYMPTOMS

All page numbers in your document may have the same page number. For example, all your pages may have the number 1, 20, or 45.

This problem is related to how the document is displayed and does not affect the printed output.

This problem does not occur if the document is protected for tracked changes or forms. Also, the page numbers in your document are updated correctly when the document is unprotected.


CAUSE

This behavior appears when you protect your document for comments. The page number Word uses is the page number of the currently active page at the time you protect your document for comments.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

  • Unprotect the document. To do this, click Unprotect Document on the Tools menu.

    -or-


  • Protect your document for Tracked changes. To do this, click Unprotect Document on the Tools menu. Then click Protect Document on the Tools menu, click Tracked changes, and click OK.
