WD2000: Hidden Numbering in Table Causes Invalid Page Fault When Printing

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to print a Word document that contains a table with numbering formatted as Hidden, Word may stop responding (hang), or the following error message may appear:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, the following message appears:
WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in WINWORD.EXE at 0167:30268ae7.
NOTE: The actual memory address may vary.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. After typing the last item in your numbered list, press ENTER.


  2. On the blank numbered line, click Bullets and Numbering on the Format menu.


  3. On the Numbered (Outline Numbered) tab, click None, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

To format numbering as hidden, do the following:

  1. On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering.


  2. On the Numbered tab, click the number format you want and click Customize.


  3. In the Customize Numbered List dialog box, click Font.


  4. On the Font tab, select the Hidden check box and click OK.

    NOTE: The Hidden check box will be selected but dimmed by default. Click to select the check box.


  5. Click OK to close the Customize Numbered List dialog box.
