WordArt: If Font Isn't Available, WordArt Converts Without Alert

ID: Q101688

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft WordArt, version 2.0
  • Microsoft Publisher 2.0

SYMPTOMS

If you edit a WordArt 2.0 object that is formatted for a TrueType font that is no longer available on your system, WordArt maps the text to a different font. WordArt does not generate a message letting you know that it is doing so. It selects the first font in the list (usually either Arial or Algerian, since the font list is organized alphabetically).

WordArt should generate a message letting you know that if you edit the object you will lose its original font formatting and giving you the option to cancel.

RESOLUTION

The only way to regain the font formatting originally used in the TrueType object is to do one of the following:

  • Exit from the publication without saving your changes. Reopen the original file, and do not edit the WordArt object.

  • -or-

  • Reinstall the font you originally used to create the WordArt object, then make your edits.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This feature is under review and will be considered for inclusion in a future release.
