  • Microsoft Windows, versions 3.0, 3.1

SYMPTOMS

In Word versions 2.x for Windows, when you view the content of a document with the Find File feature, the formatting of the text may display differently than the actual formatting of the document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-cd, 2.0b, and 2.0c. This problem was corrected in Word 6.0 for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

When you view the content of a document in the File Find dialog box, the formatting displays as if the document is attached to the Normal template. Any styles used in the document will display as defined in the Normal template. Styles not defined in the Normal template will display correctly.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Start with a new document based on the Normal template in Word for Windows. From the Format menu, choose Character.

  2. Change the font, points, and color options, and choose the Use As Default button. Answer Yes to change the format of the Normal style.

  3. From the File menu, choose Find File.

  4. Locate and select a file attached to a template other than the Normal template. Choose the Options button, choose Contents from the List File Names With option, and choose OK.

Result: The file based on a template other than Normal.dot displays with the formatting of the styles in the Normal template.
