SYMPTOMS
In Word, the Line Number character style formatting changes with the
Normal style font definition, even though the style is based on the Default
Paragraph Font.
CAUSEThis behavior is by design. Changing line numbers to reflect individual paragraph fonts would produce unprofessional documents. Line numbers need to be consistent throughout a document, without reflecting font changes in the text. MORE INFORMATION
The Default Paragraph Font character style is defined as the font of
the underlying paragraph style and is the underlying style for such
character styles in Word 6.0 as Annotation Reference, Footnote
Reference, and Line Number. In general, the Default Paragraph Font
feature allows character styles to take on the font formatting of the
paragraph they are in.
