SYMPTOMSThere are four fields in Word that are not shaded, even when they are selected and Field Shading is set to Always or When Selected: the TA, TC, XE, and PRIVATE fields. However, if any of these fields is inserted inside a different field, it will be shaded just like the rest of the field. CAUSE
This behavior is by design. These four fields are called "dead" because
they don't display a result; they are merely used by other fields. Any non-
dead field is shaded when Field Shading is turned on.
