Annotations and Footnotes Keep Revision Marks When Copied

SYMPTOMS

If you select the Mark Revisions While Editing option and then add or edit an annotation, footnote, or an endnote, the annotation, footnote, or endnote will retain revision marks when copied to a new document, even though Mark Revisions While Editing is not selected in the new document. The marker for the footnote, endnote, or annotation will not retain revision marks when pasted into the new document.

(To locate the Mark Revisions While Editing option, choose Revisions from the Tools menu.)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Word version 6.0 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

When you turn revision marks on and then insert an annotation, footnote, or endnote, both the marker and the item inserted will be marked as new text in the document. If you select the marker, and then copy and paste the marker into a new document that has revision marks turned off, the marker is added to the document without revision marks. If you then view the annotation, footnote, or endnote, it will still be formatted with revision marks.
