WD6X: Thesuarus Incorrect If Table Cell Is Selected

ID: Q106049

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Word thesaurus may not select the correct word to analyze in a table. This occurs if you have a table containing more than one column, and you try to check a word that's not in the first column. Word may check only the first column of the table and the word(s) contained therein.

CAUSE

This error occurs only if the entire cell in the second column (or a column other than the first) is selected. With the entire cell selected, Word's focus returns to the beginning of the row, which means that Word looks only at the first column.

WORKAROUND

The thesaurus will work correctly if you have the insertion point in the cell or select just the word you want to lookup. If the entire cell is not selected, the thesaurus functions correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 7.0 and Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
