TrueType Fonts Displayed with Jagged Edges

ID: Q107228

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

TrueType fonts are displayed with jagged edges in a Word 6.0 for Windows document, while ATI Crystal fonts display with non-jagged edges. For example, a TrueType 6-point font may display with jagged edges while an ATI Crystal 6-point font displays with sharp clean edges.

CAUSE

TrueType fonts are not being "anti-aliased," while the Crystal fonts are. Anti-aliasing is the process of adding gray scale around the edges of a font to eliminate any jagged edges. This process occurs when ATI Crystal fonts are run through the video card.
