Setup Displays "Setup Must Restart..." Repeatedly Under OS/2

ID: Q107788

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0
  • IBM OS/2, versions 1.2, 1.21, 1.3, 1.31, 2.0, 2.1

SYMPTOMS

If the Enable TrueType Fonts option in the WIN-OS/2 Control Panel is not selected, the Word 6.0 for Windows Setup program will display the following message:

Setup must restart Windows to enable installation of TrueType fonts. Once Windows has restarted, you must run Setup again.
Choosing the OK button will repeatedly redisplay this same message.

CAUSE

The method used to activate the TrueType fonts option and restart Windows in the Word Setup program is ineffective under OS/2.

RESOLUTION

You must manually enable TrueType fonts before the Word Setup program will complete a Word installation successfully. To enable TrueType fonts, follow these steps:

  1. Exit all Windows applications currently running on the OS/2 system.

  2. Start the WIN-OS/2 Control Panel.

  3. Choose the Fonts icon to display the installed fonts window.

  4. When the window appears, click the TrueType button on the right side of the window.

  5. Select the Enable TrueType Fonts option.

  6. Choose OK.

  7. Choose the Restart Now button to restart the current WIN-OS/2 session.

After the WIN-OS/2 session restarts, start the Word Setup program to complete a desired Word installation.
