SYMPTOMS

The following is a list of changes that occur if you enable the Use Smart Cut And Paste option in Word 6.0:

  • If you have Revision Marks selected, when a word is deleted and marked as revised, the space following it is also marked as revised.

  • If you select an area that contains a period and two spaces and then copy and paste that selection in the document, the two spaces are replaced with one space.

RESOLUTION

To restore Word to its default editing state, clear the Use Smart Cut And Paste option with the following steps:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Options.

  2. Choose the Edit tab.

  3. Clear the Use Smart Cut And Paste check box. Choose OK.

MORE INFORMATION

With Revision Marks selected, if you delete the word "This" in the sentence "This is a test," the space between "This" and "is" is also marked as revised. Here is the result of the first behavior listed above:

This is a test
is a test (without the space before "is")
The following is an example of the second behavior:
  1. Type This is a test. (Be sure to include two spaces following period.)

  2. Press SHIFT+HOME to select the line.

  3. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

  4. Press the End key to move to the end of the line.

  5. From the Edit menu, choose Paste three times.
