WD6x: Spinning Disk Icon Appears in Find File Dialog Box

ID: Q110358

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

If you click Find File on the File menu, an icon resembling a spinning disk may appear in the upper right corner of the Find File dialog box, even if you are not actively searching the drive.

CAUSE

The icon is actually a representation of generic disk activity. On a Macintosh system, the icon is more likely to appear if you select File Info from the View list in the Find File dialog box.

The disk icon is active much longer when you are accessing remote drives, floppy disk drives, or any drive where access is slower than the internal hard disk.

When Word has finished updating the display, the icon disappears.
