SYMPTOMSIf text in a table of contents or an index entry contains a tab, Word does not include that tab in the compiled table of contents. This behavior applies to table of contents entries that are created with a heading style or a TC field. CAUSEBy removing tabs from your table of contents or index entries, Word eliminates the possibility of awkward or inappropriate spacing in your compiled table of contents, especially where custom tab settings are concerned. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the programs listed at the beginning of this article.
