SYMPTOMSWhen you simultaneously update many links (typically from 80 to 200) in a Word for Windows document, "Low memory" error messages or a general protection (GP) fault in WINWORD.EXE may occur. If you opened your document without automatically updating the links, a "Low memory" error message may occur when you scroll through the list of links in the Edit Links dialog box. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows. This problem was corrected in version 6.0a and later of Word for Windows. WORKAROUND
Prior to obtaining the Word 6.0a Patch, you should turn off the Update
Automatic Links At Open option. (To locate this option, choose Options from
the Tools menu and select the General tab.) If you need to manually update
links before you obtain Word 6.0a, update
fewer links at a time.
