ID: Q111553

6.00 WINDOWS kbinterop BugList6.00 fixlist6.00a
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

In a Word for Windows document with a routing slip attached, you may receive a "General Mail Failure" error message when you choose the Address button in the File Routing Slip dialog box. When this error message appears, you cannot use Word to route your document.

CAUSE

The "General Mail Failure" error message appears if the routing slip was added from a computer using an electronic mail (email) system over a mail gateway. Word does not check the validity of the names on the To list, so when the email systems are not the same, the operation stops.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows. This problem was corrected in versions 6.0a and later of Word for Windows.
