SYMPTOMSWhen you create a dropped capital letter at the beginning of a paragraph using the Drop Cap command on the Format menu, sometimes extra space appears to the right of the dropped capital letter, between the letter and the remaining text. The extra space ruins the intended Drop Cap effect. CAUSEIf the paragraph to which you apply the Drop Cap formatting contains certain paragraph formatting such as right indent formatting, Word applies the same paragraph formatting to the Drop Cap paragraph. Some paragraph formats, such as left indent formatting, do not affect the position of the Drop Cap. WORKAROUNDSelect the dropped capital letter, or its frame, and remove the paragraph formatting that affects the Drop Cap. For example, remove the right indent formatting by choosing Paragraph from the Format menu, selecting 0" (zero inches) in the Right Indent box, and choosing OK. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word for Windows 95.
