Unexpected Cursor and Selection Behavior in Split Table Row

ID: Q113843

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

Insertion point movement and cell selection may not behave as expected when a table containing a row that's split between pages is displayed in page layout view.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To return to expected behavior, display the document in normal view.

MORE INFORMATION

Unexpected insertion point movement and cell selection can include any or all of the following:

  1. In cells with more than one line of text, using the up and down arrow keys may move the insertion point to a different cell instead of a different position within the current cell.

  2. Using the up and down arrow keys may move the insertion point to a cell at the left or right instead of the cell directly above or below the current position.

  3. Clicking in the blank portion of a cell that spans multiple pages may select the cell at the left or right.
