Case of Form Field Text Won't Change from Uppercase

ID: Q114206

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

In Word, if you specify that form field text be uppercase (or title case) by default and then change your default text format to first capital, the form field text remains in uppercase (or title case). This problem does not occur if you first format the form field text as lowercase. (To locate the text format options, choose Form Field from the Insert menu, select the Text option, then choose the Options button.)

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. The title case and uppercase options format the text so that the first letter of the text string is capitalized. Since text formatted with uppercase or title case already has the first character capitalized, changing the formatting to first capital has no effect.

WORKAROUND

If your form field text is currently formatted as uppercase or title case, change the default text format to lowercase before choosing first capital as the text format.
