SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Rich Text Format (RTF) file containing a device-independent bitmap (DIB) image into Word 6.0 or 6.0a, the graphic image is not retained. WORKAROUNDTo avoid this problem and to insure optimal device independence, Microsoft recommends that RTF writer applications embed picture images in RTF files as Windows Metafiles. We do not recommend embedding of Device-Independent or Device-Dependent bitmaps. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. MORE INFORMATIONFor more information about how to embed a Windows Metafile in RTF, see the discussion of Pictures in Microsoft Rich Text Format Specification.
