256-Color Graphic Edited in Microsoft Drawing Updates Wrong

SYMPTOMS

After you edit a 256-color graphic in your Word document and Word updates the graphic, the shape and colors of the graphic are rearranged in a unintended, undesirable manner. This problem occurs when your Windows Picture Editor setting specifies Microsoft Drawing.

You can choose Undo from the Edit menu to return the graphic to its original image.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.


WORKAROUND

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Options.


  2. Select the Edit tab.


  3. In the Picture Editor box, select Microsoft Word (or another graphics package if listed).
