SYMPTOMSIf "Change Straight Quotes to Smart Quotes" is turned on and you type an equal sign enclosed in quotation marks ("="), the equal sign will be enclosed by two opening quotation marks, rather than being preceded by opening quotations marks and followed by closing quotation marks. Position the insertion point between the pair and insert the equal sign.Method 2: Type the opening quotation mark followed by the equal sign. Turn on Num Lock. Hold down the ALT key and type 0148 on the numeric keypad.
