Undocumented .LabelAutoText Argument for ToolsCreateEnvelope

ID: Q116229

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1

SYMPTOMS

If you manually create a macro to perform a mail merge to create envelopes and omit the .LabelAutoText argument from the ToolsCreateEnvelope statement, you will receive the following error message:

Word Basic Err=102
Command Failed.

CAUSE

When you record the macro to perform the merge steps, the macro will automatically include this argument. However, if you manually create the macro and do not include this argument or if you edit the macro and remove it, then Word will generate the error message.

The syntax for this argument is

.LabelAutoText = <text>
where <text> is the name of an AutoText entry in which the address fields for a data source are stored (for example, .LabelAutoText = Sales).

WORKAROUND

Edit the macro to include the .LabelAutoText argument.

MORE INFORMATION

To locate this information, choose Contents from the Help menu, select Programming with Microsoft Word, choose Statements And Functions Index, and select ToolsCreateEnvelope. .LabelAutoText argument was added to the Word Developer's Kit, second edition, page 749.
