Equation Editor Fields Sized Incorrectly After Updating

ID: Q116474

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you update an equation created from the Equation Editor, the equation field may resize to an incorrect, usually smaller, point size.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs in table cells where the cell height is set to an exact height that is smaller than the font size used to create the equation, or where the cell width is smaller than the width of the equation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

If the object resizes to a smaller size after you update it, manually resize it:

  1. Select the object.

  2. From the Format menu, choose Picture.

  3. To reset the equation to its original size, choose the Reset button. (The original size of the equation appears at the bottom of the Picture dialog box.)
