Inserting a Large Microsoft Excel 4.0 Object Produces Error

SYMPTOMS

You receive one of the following errors when you try to insert a Microsoft Excel 4.0 worksheet object in a Word for Windows document:

  • The following error is generated when you try to insert the object by choosing the Create From File tab (to locate this tab, choose Object from the Insert menu):
    The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.


  • The following error is generated when you use the Copy and Paste or Paste Special commands:
    Word cannot obtain the data for the Microsoft Excel Worksheet Link.



CAUSE

The Microsoft Excel worksheet object is too wide or too long to fit on the page.


WORKAROUNDS

Method 1: Insert the object as an icon. When you insert an existing Microsoft Excel 4.0 worksheet object, this option is available on the Create From File tab. It is also available when you choose Paste Special from the Edit menu, select Paste or Paste Link, and choose Excel 4.0 Worksheet Object or one of the other options.

Method 2: Reduce the size of the object to a single page before inserting it into your Word document.
