Field Text Is Not Readable on Monochrome Display

ID: Q119418

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

Field text is not readable on your monochrome display.

CAUSE

You have the Field Shading option set to Always or When Selected. (To locate the Field Shading option, from the Tools menu, choose Options, and select the View tab.)

On monochrome displays, field shading and text appear as the same color. By design, on monochrome systems, Word installs with the Field Shading option turned off.

RESOLUTION

Turn Field Shading off. To do this, from the Tools menu, choose Options. On the View tab, set Field Shading to Never and choose the OK button.

MORE INFORMATION

For easy identification of fields, Word 6.0 allows you to set Field Shading to one of three modes: Never, When Selected, or Always.
