Format Font Displays Bookman Font as Bold on HP 4Si PS Printer

ID: Q119821

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Hewlett-Packard (HP) 4Si/4SiMX 300 dpi or 600 dpi PostScript printer driver (dated 1/26/93), bold font formatting is selected in the Format Font dialog box for the internal printer font Bookman even when the text is not formatted as bold.

The Bold button on the Formatting toolbar and the Help button both correctly indicate the font formatting.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The HP 4Si/4SiMX uses a different driver for 300 dpi and for 600 dpi. The filename for the 300-dpi driver is HP4SI3_1.WPD, dated 1/26/93 with a file size of 7696. For the 600-dpi driver, the filename is HP4SI6_1.WPD, dated 1/26/93 with a file size of 7696.

Although the Font Style in the Format Font dialog box indicates that the font is formatted as Bold (even when it is not), the font displays correctly on the screen and prints correctly.

Other fonts do not have this problem, nor do other PostScript printer drivers.
