SYMPTOMS
If a paragraph contains two linked graphics, Word for Windows may update
them continuously when you save, close, and reopen the document and scroll
past the linked graphics. When this happens, Word continues to update the
linked graphics, one after another, until you press ESC or choose the
Cancel button in the external converter dialog box.
CAUSE
The continuous updating behavior if all the linked graphics in the
paragraph use an external graphics filter to import the file and if you
clear the Save Picture In Document option in the Insert Picture dialog box
(if this option is selected for at least one of the linked graphics, Word
updates the graphics only once).
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Word listed above. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95. WORKAROUNDMethod 1: Select the Save Picture in Document option for at least one of the linked graphics in the paragraph.Method 2: Create a table and insert one picture in each table cell.Method 3: Place each picture in a frame, and position the frames next to each other.
