WD6X: Print Status Dialog Box Does Not Indicate Total Pages

ID: Q120233

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

The first line in the Print Status dialog box may lead you to believe that when you print from Word, the total number of pages in the document will be displayed (for example, "Now Printing Page 1 of..."). However, the total number of pages is not displayed.

MORE INFORMATION

The word "of" is misleading on the first line. The line is intended to be read with the document name on the second line. For example, the line should read "Now Printing Page 1 of 'BOOK.DOC'." The Print Status dialog box should identify four key pieces of information:

  • The page number currently printing

  • The document's name

  • The printer driver being used

  • The share name or port (Windows and Windows NT only)

Instead, the following dialog box is displayed on the Macintosh:
Now Printing Page 1 of
'<document name>' on the
<name of printer driver>
And the following dialog box is displayed under Windows or Windows NT:
Now Printing Page 1 of
'<document name>' on the
HP LaserJet IIIsi PostScript
<\\PRINTER\SHARE>
