The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Word 6.x or 7.0, when you insert or update a table of contents or table of figures in a document that you originally created in Word 2.0 for Windows, the following error message may occur:
CAUSE
The Word 2.0 document may not have been converted correctly by Word 6.x or
Word 7.0. As a result, when you update or insert the table of contents (TOC
field), the above "insufficient memory" error message occurs.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. WORKAROUND
One or more of the following methods may be used to fix the above problem:
In Word 2.0, reopen the file and save in the Word 2.0 format.
