The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSA document created using the Master Document feature in Word for the Macintosh version 6.x or later is not converted properly when you open it in Word for Windows version 6.x or later. Instead, you receive the following error message during conversion: In this error message, the path and file name are truncated to eight characters with a three-character extension. Each folder (directory) and the file name are preceded by an exclamation point (!). CAUSEWord is searching for the subdocuments based on their original path and file names and, hence, does not recognize the names given to the subdocuments during the conversion process. WORKAROUNDTo recover the functionality of the master document, you must reinsert the subdocuments. As you reinsert each subdocument, you are providing Word with the current path and file name of each subdocument. MORE INFORMATION
