The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Word Assistant, version 1.0
SUMMARY
This article describes how to install a copy of Word Assistant into a
directory on your network server. The information here supplements
information in the WAREADME.TXT file supplied with Microsoft Word
Assistant.
MORE INFORMATION
To install Word Assistant to the network, follow these steps:
- Perform a standard workstation installation of Word Assistant either
from floppy disk or, after creating a network setup, as outlined in
the WAREADME.TXT file. The files are installed to the user's
workstation or to the user's directory on the server.
- Copy the contents of C:\WINWORD\CLIPART (where C:\WINWORD\CLIPART
represents the user's the local directory) to
F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\CLIPART (where F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD is the server
location for the shared files).
- Copy the contents of C:\WINWORD\STARTUP to F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\STARTUP.
- Copy the contents of C:\WINWORD\TEMPLATE to a directory called
F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\TEMPLATE.
- On the server, create the directory, F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\SPCLPPR.
- Copy the contents of C:\WINWORD\SPPCLPPR to the
F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\SPPCLPPR directory.
- Using a text editor such as Notepad, edit the WINWORD6.INI file to point
to the proper directories. This file is located in the user's Windows
directory (for example, C:\WINDOWS). For example, the WINDWORD6.INI file
might display the following text:
[Microsoft Word]
USER-DOT-PATH=C:\WINWORD\TEMPLATE
WORKGROUP-DOT-PATH=F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\TEMPLATE
PICTURE-PATH=F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\CLIPART
- Using the text editor, modify the SPCLPPR.INI file to reflect the proper
path. This file is also located in the user's WINDOWS directory. This
file might look like this:
[Special Paper]
Papers Location=F:\WINAPPS\WINWORD\SPCLPPR
- Edit the FONTSEL.INI file to add button=1 to the [Misc] section.
[Misc]
button=1
For additional information on modifying the FONTSEL.INI file, please see
the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q106657 Customizing the Font Selector in Word Assistant
Future installations of Word Assistant create a C:\WINWORD directory
structure. Delete the C:\WINWORD directory (where C:\WINWORD is the local
directory). Then repeat steps 7 through 9.
If the user-specific files are local, do not delete the C:\WINWORD
directory. You can delete the C:\WINWORD\SPCLPPR directory and the
C:\WINWORD\CLIPART directory; delete all templates beginning with WA_ or
WAF_ in the C:\WINWORD\TEMPLATE directory, and delete the .WLL files in the
C:\WINWORD\STARTUP directory.
