  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

If you try to print a selection from Word for Windows that contains more than one section, and each section has different headers or footers, you may receive the error message:

Word cannot read the header or footer in this document. Save the document in Rich Text Format, close it, and then reopen it.
Clicking OK several times may close the error message and print the document, or it may cause your system to hang (stop responding).

WORKAROUND

To print across sections in a document, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Print.

  2. Click the Pages option.

  3. In the Pages box, type the range of pages and sections you want to print. For example, to print from page 4 in section 2 to page 5 in section 5, type p4s2-p5s5.

  4. Click OK.
