Internet Assistant Does Not Support URL as Startup Document

• Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 1.0
• Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOM

You receive the following error message when you choose Browse Web from the File menu:

Microsoft Word Err=1078
This file could not be found. (C:\WINWORD\DEFAULT.DOC)

CAUSE

There are two reasons for this message:

• You have a URL as your default document. Internet Assistant does not currently support setting a URL as the default document.



• The default local document (DEFAULT.DOC) cannot be found.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

Using a text editor such as Notepad, edit the WORDHTML.INI file so that the startup document in the [MISC] section uses the DEFAULT.DOC file. Your setting might look like this:

   [MISC]
   startdoc=c:\winword\internet\default.doc
