Weird Toolbar Behavior with Internet Assistant

ID: Q128644

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0, 1.0z, 2.0, 2.0z, 2.02z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

Custom buttons change position on the Standard toolbar when you switch between a document based on the Normal template and a document based on the HTML template. For example, if you add a button between the FileOpen and FileSave buttons to execute the FileClose command, these buttons trade places when you switch between documents.

Furthermore, the Style box is duplicated after you move the Switch To Web Browse View button to the right end of the Formatting toolbar. If you attempt to correct the problem by deleting the duplicate Style box, saving the changes to the Normal template, and restarting Word, the Style box no longer appears on the Formatting toolbar.

-or-

When applying Word Assistant's Special Paper from the Insert menu, all buttons (custom or normal) added to the Formatting and Standard toolbars are duplicated.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Internet Assistant listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

  1. Create a separate toolbar for custom buttons.

  2. Move the Switch To Web Browse View button back to its original location.
