Multipage Preformatted Element Prints on One Page

ID: Q129555

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0, 1.0z, 2.0z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When printing a document that contains a multipage preformatted element <PRE>, Internet Assistant displays and prints the preformatted element on one page, with the text extending into the top and bottom margins. This problem does not occur when printing from an Internet browser such as Netscape.

CAUSE

This is a design limitation of Internet Assistant. The preformatted element contains a frame that cannot be printed to separate pages.

RESOLUTION

You can remove the frame before printing. To do this:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Style.

  2. In the Styles list, select Pre Wide.

  3. Choose the Modify button.

  4. Choose the Format button. Select Frame from the list that appears.

  5. Choose the Remove Frame button.

  6. Choose the OK button.

  7. Choose the Apply button.

Note: Another way to work around the problem is to print the document from your Internet browser.

You can now print the document with correct pagination.
