Internet Assistant: General Protection Fault in WORDHTML.WLL

SYMPTOMS

You get the following general protection (GP) fault when attempting to open a file with an .HTM extension.

WINWORD caused a General Protection Fault in module WORDHTML.WLL at 0004:0383.


CAUSE

The document is not an HTML or text file. For example, the document may contain binary information such as that found in an .EXE or .DLL file.

The document may be damaged or corrupt.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0 and 1.0z. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.


RESOLUTION

Because HTML documents are ASCII text files, try to open the file using Notepad or Write. If the file cannot be opened using a text editor, it is either not a text file, or it may be damaged or corrupt.
