WD: F11 and NextField() Function Won't Work with Tools, Revisions

ID: Q130566

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

  • When you press F11 to move the insertion point from field to field, the insertion point does not move.

  • -or-

  • A macro that contains the NextField() function gets caught in an endless loop.

This happens when all the following conditions are true:

  • Mark Revisions While Editing is turned on.

  • Show Revisions On Screen is turned off.

  • You have deleted a section of text that contains a field code.

CAUSE

The function key F11 and the NextField() WordBasic function both search for the next field in the document. If you delete a section of text that contains a field code and do not have Show Revisions On Screen turned on, Word will not find the other fields. The insertion point stops where the deleted field code was.

WORKAROUND

Make sure that Show Revisions On Screen is turned on, or accept the deletion for the section of text that contained the field code, and then run your macro or use the F11 key.

STATUS

This problem was corrected in Word 97.
